-
-Today is the second Sunday of Easter. We are still well within the Easter Octave. Thomas was the second main server, Alex one of the tapers with Austin, and Jon reprising his usual role as the boat boy. Ben was there with the whole family. It was already pretty crowded even though we were there by 1.30. I sat with Corrine a few rows back from the front, and Chris and Bel sat with mum behind us. Nick and Yvonne were at the front row.
-
-Today's Gospel reading is from the passage about Thomas the doubter. I brought it up later at dinner: about how blessed it is to have not seen and yet believed. Father AJ told us today that we can also remember today as the "Feast of Reconciliation", as the gospel also speaks about the risen Jesus empowering his disciples to forgive sins in his name. As Father says, this "mercy is the second name for God's love" for us.
-
-Two happy events mark today's Eucharistic celebration for me. The first is that Thomas went forward to receive the collection from the warden on his own initiative. He had noticed the warden bringing the collection up, and no one else had made a move to receive it, so he went. Just like that. No prompting needed. It is moments like this that provide some glimmer of his potential to be a great instrument of God.
-
-The second one is that Ben got to ring the bell, together with Thomas. The boys told me Ben was really happy to be get a chance to do this. I still remember my first time ringing the multiple bells during mass; it was a big deal for me too. Ben apparently told the boys he wants to do it again.
