Some children exhibit hyperkinetic movements. These are excessive or unwanted movements.

There are different types of hyperkinetic movements: dystonia, chorea, athetosis, tremor. (see this [[https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2929378/|classification]]).

Differentiating dystonia from chorea:
  - From the article: "Chorea is distinguished from dystonia due to the apparently **random, unpredictable, and continuously** ongoing nature of the movements, compared with the more predictable and stereotyped movements or postures of dystonia."
  - chorea also faster movements than dystonia
