Supplied segmentally by medial plantar artery, and can be distally based. This is useful as the proximal part is muscular and can be used to cover various defects.
Schwabeggar describes dividing the medial plantar artery proximally (it is smaller and less important for the foot than lateral plantar artery). Clamp and check flap and foot circulation before dividing it.
