Bony Anatomy of the Lower Limb

Pelvis - hip/innominate bone + sacrum - joined by SI joints and pubic symphysis

Hip bone - fusion of ilium, ischium and pubis

Ilium - wing/ala - iliac crest - muscle attachment - ASIS - PSIS

Ischium - ischial spin - greater/lesser notch - ischial tuberosity - acetabulum

  1. articular surface

- Obturator foramen

Pubis - body - superior ramus - ischiopubic ramus - pubic tubercle

Sacrum - joined to ilium via SI joints and two large ligaments

  1. sacrospinous ligament –> greater sciatic foramen
  2. sacrotuberous ligament –> lesser sciatic foramen

Femur - longest bone in the body - proximal end

  1. head
  2. neck
  3. greater trochanter
  4. lesser trochanter
  5. intertrochanteric line - ligament attachment
  6. intertrochanteric crest between troch
  7. gluteal tuberosity
  8. linea aspera
