Cerebral Palsy

Some children exhibit hyperkinetic movements. These are excessive or unwanted movements.

There are different types of hyperkinetic movements: dystonia, chorea, athetosis, tremor. (see this classification).

Differentiating dystonia from chorea:

  1. From the article: “Chorea is distinguished from dystonia due to the apparently random, unpredictable, and continuously ongoing nature of the movements, compared with the more predictable and stereotyped movements or postures of dystonia.”
  2. chorea also faster movements than dystonia
