Fuchs states that National Health Insurance is the result of political rather than economic decision making. He cites the example of Bismarck in Germany and the UK's NHS as two examples of this.

In his view, the opponents of NHI in the US are are stronger than those who support it. This includes parties who have vested interests (e.g. hospitals, physicians etc..), but also many general public who feel the government should stay out of their people's affairs.
